5 Reasons to Buy a Book at GBF on Saturday
The GBF is FREE and fun for all to enjoy. We always want that to be the case.
But, if you’re able to buy our Featured Authors’ books at the event, please do. Why?
Here are 5 reasons:
1. It helps us continue to attract the world’s best authors. While the purpose of the GBF is to provide a fantastic cultural opportunity for the community (and region) – and authors are supportive of that – the authors also have to make a living. If, in addition to hosting a fabulously fun and enriching event, we also happen to sell a lot of books, it makes it more attractive for authors and publishers to be a part of it.
2. You can get yourself a Collector’s Item. Signed books – particularly 1st edition hardcovers – have added value, both on your bookshelf and in the marketplace.
3. You’re supporting the Local Economy. Our bookseller is a wonderful independent book store, Politics & Prose. They employ dozens of area residents, and the owners live locally in Bethesda. Every dollar you spend with them supports our local economy.
4. Signed books makes for great gifts. Give your kids a book personalized by a great author like Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Mark Bittman’s “How to Grill Everything” might make a terrific Father’s Day gift. Your book club friends might love a signed copy of Aimee Molloy’s “The Perfect Mother,” to read before Kerry Washington comes out with her film adaptation. You get the point!
5. Reading nourishes the soul. And there are some AMAZING books and authors at the GBF this year.
Bonus: We’ve heard from some pretty reliable sources that, on average, people who buy and read books from the GBF are much sexier than those who don’t. Coincidence? We think not.
FYI – Most of our Featured Author’s books will be available for purchase in the Politics & Prose Bookstore pavilion tent at the Festival. Locate it here on the Festival Map.
