GBF & #GaithersburgREADS coronavirus updates

As all of us deal with the coronavirus pandemic, we at GBF have good news, bad news, and ‘wait and see’ news. Here we go, in reverse order:

The ‘Wait and See’ News on the May 16 Gaithersburg Book Festival

Our Book Festival is still more than two months out, so we’re not ready to make a call on it yet. For the time being, we are continuing to proceed as if everything is a “go.”

The key date at which we will evaluate the status of GBF will be Monday, April 20.

For the most up-to-date announcements, stay tuned to this website and make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter (find the sign-up form in the footer below), following our Facebook page, and our Twitter account.

The Bad News on our March 31 #GaithersburgREADS event

Out of concern for everyone’s safety, we are going to postpone our March 31 #GaithersburgREADS event with Jeanine Cummins and Reyna Grande.

The Good News on #GaithersburgREADS with Jeanine & Reyna

Both Jeanine and Reyna have graciously agreed to work with us on rescheduling, and we still have every intention of putting on this event. We will keep you posted through the channels mentioned above.

City of Gaithersburg Statement on Coronavirus

The City continues to actively monitor the coronavirus situation. We are coordinating with county and state health and emergency response agencies to proactively plan, prepare and respond as appropriate. We continue to encourage residents to be our partner by practicing good hygiene and avoiding contact with others if they feel ill.

The City has activated a Task Force to coordinate our efforts. Meetings are being held to address policies and practices with respect to the health and safety of residents, our employees, our program participants, and our patrons. The Task Force is monitoring public health information and planning for public meeting and gathering protocols, facility cleanliness, continuity of operations, and internal and external communications.

The situation is being monitored daily, and decisions will be communicated about facility closures and program cancellations as they are made.

Please rely on trusted sources for the most up to date information about coronavirus. We encourage residents to visit Montgomery County Health & Human Services.
