Gaithersburg Book Festival Seeks Local Authors to Spotlight on May 19

Authors living in the Washington, D.C., area have the opportunity to be showcased alongside award-winning and best-selling authors on May 19, 2012, at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. Organizers of the festival are accepting applications from local authors who have published a book within the last year and are interested in speaking about their work during the festival’s “Local Spotlight Hour.”

“The Washington, D.C., area has long been recognized as the most literate region in the country,” said Jud Ashman, Gaithersburg Book Festival chairman and City of Gaithersburg Council Member. “So it’s no surprise that we boast a large number of talented authors – both nationally known and up-and-coming – who reside in our area. While the festival has earned an amazing reputation that allows us to attract nationally known authors, we believe it is equally important to showcase some of our lesser-known literary talents.”

In its third year, the Gaithersburg Book Festival has gained prominence as one of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area’s premier literary events. Already confirmed for 2012 are non-fiction best-sellers Buzz Bissinger, John Feinstein, Adam Hochschild and Jim Lehrer; fiction authors Jane Green, Tom McNeal, Matthew Norman and Sarah Pekkanen; mystery award-winners Brad Parks, Len Rosen and Steve Ulfelder; and children and young adult favorites Tom Angleberger, Fred Bowen, Andrew Clements, Michael Buckley, Laura McNeal and Matthew Quick.

Local authors who are interested in joining this impressive line-up should download the Featured Author application from the Gaithersburg Book Festival website. Along with the completed application form, prospective featured authors must provide a copy of their current book, their bibliography, if applicable, and a resume or description of their speaking experience.  Applications are due by Wednesday, February 29.  Those who are selected to present at the 2012 Gaithersburg Book Festival will be notified by the end of March. Authors not selected are welcome to participate in the Festival as an exhibitor.
