Have you never been to the Washington Writers Conference? You should join us!

We put it together with all types in mind, from beginners to pros, with attention to business and craft, representing a variety of genre, with agents (and editors this year, brand new!) with whom to sit and chat. We create a friendly, welcoming place to socialize yourself as a writer. And we’ve been doing this now for SEVEN YEARS!

People keep coming back because they learn about the processes of writing and publishing, and participate in them, for themselves. They see how generous the literary community people are in the DC area. They get a great bargain for their money, a laid-back social-hour and how-to-pitch panel on the Friday evening, and a full, energetic schedule on Saturday. You’ll be good and tired at the end of the day, when our friends E.A. Aymar and Tara Laskowski team up as hosts for the Cash Bar, Book Signings and Giveaways.

Of course, it’s a powerhouse schedule, but when you sign up, we offer you the would-be writer, you seeking an agent, you wanting to hear the stories and insights of some of the DC area’s most luminescent authors, the chance to sit with three agents (full list of agents ) who are there to help writers to socialize their work. It’s a unique chance to talk with professionals, to show them your work, to discuss the future of your manuscript.

If you’ve never pitched to an agent before, the spirit is buoyant and supportive. Everyone is excited, grateful to receive encouragement, ready to encourage. You’ll see them waiting in line before their pitch session, a little nervous, but keen on sharing their ideas. You’ll talk to them during lunch, hearing the stories of so many who have found that writing has to be a part of their lives. Maybe you’ll even start a reading or writing group with the new friends you’ve made!

It could also turn out that you sign with an agent. You may even have your book subsequently published. That’s happened with a good number of attendees over the years. But if you believe the journey is as important as the destination, then the Washington Writers Conference is the one for you. You won’t forget this galvanizing experience!

By registering and participating, you’ll also be supporting the Washington Independent Review of Books (WIRoB), which cranks it out 24/7/365 (props to Holly Smith!) to be another great 21stcentury DC literary warehouse. Many WIRoB people work together with our GBF friends to support that great event (this year only one week after the Washington Writers Conference!) We’re proud that we’re dynamic literary people, but, to stay humble, and to defray expenses, we run the Writers Conference.

If you’ve done the solitary work of forging stories from the fires of your mind and the stone of your bones, and you’re ready to socialize yourself as a writer, among some very bright people, then you should sign up for the 2019 Washington Writers Conference.

Good times, peeps! See you there – Y.S. Fing
