Holiday Giving, part 1
by Committee member Leslie Shapiro
I give books for Hanukkah as well as other events. Over a better than 50-year span, my sister-in-law and I made sure that the various children always received books as part of their gifts. As life-long readers we want our families to have the same joy, sense of adventure and learning experience that only books can give.
This year, I consulted with the children’s book experts on the Gaithersburg Book Festival Committee for suggestions on books appropriate for my seven-year-old great-nephew who is an advanced reader. Thanks to the help I received, he was given “Treasure Hunters” by James Patterson and “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate. His parents have been reading to him virtually his entire life and have instilled in him a love of reading and being read to.
Thanks to Juniper Books LLC for the great book menorah graphic.
