Kimberly L. Becker: Recommended Read of 2011

Kimberly L. Becker is a member of Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers and is of Cherokee/Celtic/Teutonic descent. Her poems appear in numerous journals and anthologies, including the “Native Women’s Poetics” issue of Drunken Boat. Her first book, “Words Facing East,” was chosen as one of the Best Poetry Books of 2011 for what Kim Roberts called “a remarkable series of poems about learning Cherokee.”

Kimberly’s recommended read of 2011 is:

Sing: Poetry from the Indigenous Americas edited by Allison Adelle Hedge Coke. This is my favorite book of the year. Arthur Sze, author of “The Ginkgo Light,” called the anthology a “groundbreaking collection” and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins said “this ambitious collection remind us why we read poetry at all.”

Kimberly recently reviewed “Sing” in Eclectica. You also can read an interview with Allison Adelle Hedge Coke on the Eclectica website.
