icarus

We the people, build towers tall enough to scrape the sky,
Tech that is from a distant sci-fi world
interpreted as our duty to improve and reach for more
To fly higher and higher
Using our imagination to form a bright new future
our intelligence to build new ideas
And the most influential to promote it all
The consumer encouraged to buy and buy
But to what end?
To simply never rest till perfection is created
And when it is how long will it be in style,
Before something new is craved
How is this contest seen from the outside?
Like the way we fought to be the first on the moon
Or something far more self-indulging?
Perhaps we are like the ants slaving away for the colony
Or will we be seen as a reflection of Icarus
Blindly soaring to an unseen goal
And then plummeting into the ocean, becoming a well-renowned myth
Told and told again till the details are blurry
What happens when we are the ones to fly too high?
Will we know it, or will the warning signs be ignored?
Or will we reach for the warmth of the sun nne the less,
Carried on wings of wax, a fool fated to fail
