The Novel Year program at GBF

Susan Coll is the author of 5 acclaimed novels, and a longtime member of the GBF author family. This year at GBF, she’ll be introducing some of her students to our community in a program called, “The Novel Year.”

The program is named for The Writer’s Center’s “The Novel Year” workshop, which is intended to support serious novelists completing or revising a draft of their manuscript. They will be reading from their works-in-progress.

“This is my second year teaching this year-long intensive workshop at The Writers’ Center, working with ten novelists,” says Coll, “While graduate schools offer opportunities to workshop short stories or essays, there are not many programs where students can get critical feedback on a completed novel.”

The students you’ll meet at GBF are:

  • Lisa Lipkind Leibow
  • Santi Karamchetty
  • John Lubetkin
  • Matthew Strada
  • Paul Wrenn
  • Sara Lizzy Timlin
  • Anita Lampel
  • Krista Adams
  • Peng Wu
  • Jamie Holland

“These are accomplished students,” Coll says, “some of whom have studied writing at the graduate level, have previously published books, or have placed fiction in literary journals. We are grateful to the Gaithersburg Book Festival for providing a forum for our class reading—it’s a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of these emerging writers, and a thrill to be on the same schedule as the lineup of amazing authors.”

Get there early to meet Susan and hear passages from the work of these up-and-comers! This program is scheduled for 10:15am at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Pavilion.
