Writopia Offers Scholastic Writing Awards Workshop
Writopia Lab’s newest workshop at the Gaithersburg Book Festival, “Scholastic Writing Awards – Mock Judging,” has a lot to offer for young writers who are interested in competing or sharing their work. The workshop shows teen writers (grades 7-12) how they can prepare their work for writing competitions such as the Scholastic Writing Awards, the country’s largest, longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for teen writers.
Kathy Crutcher, D.C. director and an instructor for Writopia Lab, explains: “The Scholastic Writing Awards is a tremendous program and an excellent opportunity for creative teens to show their stuff. Professional writers serve as jurors for submissions, and recognized students are celebrated through public readings, publications, and award ceremonies. Writopia Lab is thrilled to administer the program in Greater Washington and to mentor teen writers to produce work that is honest, original, and powerful on the page.”
The workshop delivers too — for four years straight, more kids from Writopia have been recognized on both the regional and national levels by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards than from any other school or program in the nation!
If you know a teen interested in competing or simply looking to developing powerful writing that gets noticed, enroll him/her in the festival’s Scholastic Writing Awards workshop.
